Dr. Rudeen's Health Tips
These are just some quick and easy health tips to improve the quality of your life. I should say that health is not really a goal that we reach and stop working for. It is a journey that never ends. In order to be naturally healthy it may be necessary to make some adjustments to your lifestyle.
Relax. I'm not talking about anything huge. This month's health tips include some seemingly small things you can do every day that will really improve your health.
If I could get my patients to do two little things, I sincerely believe that many of today's health problems would be greatly lessened. The number one health tip would be to drink more water and the other would be to get more (and better quality) sleep.
It is probably easiest to drink more water so we'll start with that one first.
The human body, which is made up of between 55 and 75 percent water (lean people have more water in their bodies because muscle holds more water than fat), is in need of constant water replenishment. Here are some facts about water that I feel are paramount to the health and wellbeing of all of us.
Water
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
2. In 37% of Amercians, the thirst mechanism is so weak that is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studies in a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to dvelop bladder cancer.
9. If you have chronic headaches or migraines, suck down a 20 oz. bottle of water at the onset to help lessen the pain.
Sleep
Just like water sleep is important for optimal health. Sleep is a necessary function of our bodies to relax, process and repair. Click
